New Grouse Grind Records

A few weeks ago the record for the Grouse Grind was just crushed. The new record of 24 minutes 22 seconds thrashed the 6 year old record of 27 minutes. Jonathan Wyatt, 3 time mountain running world champion, set the record on June 23rd, as reported by the Vancouver Sun.

There's a bit of a funny story that is buried in Jonathan's web site in his tour 2004 info. Apparently the automatic timer had been set to have a minimum of 25 minutes. They managed to sort out the time though... I wonder if they rewrote the software.

On a less stupendous scale, on June 13th I set my personal best grind time of 39 minutes and 5 seconds. This was another vindication of my friend Alex aka Sandy's weight vs time prediction, which predicted a time of 39 minute and 6 seconds given my weight.

I'm looking on schedule to achieve my target of beating my age, somewhere between 37 and 38, in the fall. It will obviously depend upon whether I can moderate my summer consumption of fruit pies and coronas :-) I don't really do the grind much in the summer because it's too hot, so I do my serious runs in spring and fall. That's I'm targetting the fall for my target.
