Vancouver's Nu restaurant reviewed

We went to "Nu" restaurant on Granville St. in Vancouver's false creek for the first time. We give it a 3/5. I had the goat cheese stuff chicken wings but couldn't taste the goat cheese. Deanna had the excellent mushroom and brie pithiviers. For mains, I won the night with the good flank steak. Deanna's Caramelized Lamb cheeks were bland and disappointing. Desert was a good lemon tort and an interesting chocolate mousse. The wine recommendation was tuscan, which was good, and it was for a 2002 tuscan, which was bad. It didn't taste that nice at all, a little fruity at the start and nothing on the finish. At least according to Robert Parker, 2002 was a dreadful year for Tuscan wines. Why they would put as their only Tuscan something that had such poor reviews is beyond me. The ambience was interesting but a little too much. I put this in the "trying too hard to be different" category. Service was good. We had a very enjoyable chat afterwards with Paul Grunberg, who we found it is moving on to Lumiere - good call. Always fun chatting with another foodie about favourite restaurants around the world. And another thing, next time they should hire a better web designer. They skimped on figuring out how to place on Google and spent too much time on lame photos like the raw chicken photo. I liked that it didn't break the bank but I expected more based on the hype. $$$. downtown.
