Rummy lying on Camera

My first blatant "reblogging". Simon Phipps posted on his blog, that the video http://www.moveon.org/censure/caughtonvideo/ shows
Donald Rumsfeld, US Defence Secretary: "You and a few other critics are the only people I have heard use the phrase 'immediate threat' - I didn't, the President didn't and it's become kind of folklore ... if you have any citations I'd like to see them"

Rumsfeld is then read two citations of he himself using that phrase to describe Saddam Hussein.

Amazing but true. I've seen more and more outright lies by government officials. Just say the lie and keep saying it. Not that the Canadian government is any better, with Paul Martin talking about fixing the democracy deficit when he's gutted democracy in his own party. But that's a different blogrant.

To be honest I have seen this same strategy used to good effect in the technology world too, and it's on the increase. Watch for words like 'community' and 'open' being subtly redefined by various players to suit their purposes. When they are called on it they agree and then get back to the job of redefinition...

Thanks for the link, Dave :-)
