Everything I needed to learn, I learned from Star Wars and Top Gun

| | Comments (5)

Enough of the "everything I need to learn I learned in kindergarten" stuff. Action movies with fighter planes, death stars and beach volleyball are where the learning action is at. Star Wars and Top Gun ought to be considered canon for learning about life and how to do the right thing. There are some absolute gems, diamonds and pearls of wisdom in these deeply spiritual movies.

The 4 most important lessons are:

1. Stay on Target. Even if you are in the death star trench being a sitting duck for Darth Vader, stay on target!

2. Never leave your wingman. You and your wingman will end up dead. You might be absolutely brilliant, but there will be some Viper who says "that was some of the best flying ever, right up until when you got killed".

3. There is no try, only do. You gotta believe.

4. You are the enemy you have to defeat. Both movies nail this, from Luke fighting himself to Maverick running then returning to the fight. It's all about self-control. Any movie that doesn't acknowlege this is not worth the bits it's consuming on any media or network.

There are other worthy points made that flesh out the spiritual guidance.

5. Rogues are necessary for the good guys to win. Make sure you cultivate your network of rogues or good guys, you never know when you have to destroy a death star, save the princess or shoot the evil Migs down.

6. You can be a whiny kid for a while and mope about tatooine or the lousy aircraft carrier, but at some point you gotta get out and save the world and get the girl.

7. If the girl is really into you, you can stay out and play sports for a little while longer.

8. If you are the girl, watch out where you lose the loving feeling.

I hope you've enjoyed this deeply insightful and useful guide to the best movies to learn lessons of life.

Yeah, but how about this one:

9. If you are the guy who is into the girl who is into the other guy, she's probably your sister. Make out with her anyway.

:)

10. Even if you are the best of the best, you can be better.
