Canadian Baby Boom and the hockey strike

| | Comments (1)

I'm convinced there is a baby boom happening right now. It seems like almost everybody we know is having kids. There's at least a dozen of our friends that are having kids. Which is really cool as ours will have lots of play dates and we can swap stories etc. I started listing the names but it's just crazy. Like: Congrats Mark and Anitra for giving birth to Bennett yesterday. Congrats to Erin and Christine for giving birth to Elise last wednesday. Congrats to Scott and Liz for Aidan's delivery last month. Congrats to my physio Kate for expecting in March. Congrats to Robin and Joe for Heather's birth 6 weeks ago. Dawn, Sandy, Harm, Jess, Patrice, Sally, etc. etc.

We went to a twins parent meeting last weekend, and a new mother who's a nurse confirmed that there is a baby boom. Women's hospital in Vancouver is having bed shortages for moms and kids because of it.

There were rumours that Canada would experience a baby boom when the hockey strike happened. Looks like it is true. How big is it? Well at least in Prince George it looks like somewhere between 35 and 65%

I doubt that much of the pregnancies that we know about are hockey strike related, but it sure seems like something is going on with the rest of the population.. Sometimes truth is stranger than fiction.

So what you're saying is that when there is no hockey strike, amorous activity gets put on ice until the hockey season is over?
