Music tired/wired for Oct

| | Comments (0)

I realized that I don't blog enough about music, so here's a start at rectifying that grave mistake. Before going into my current listening tastes, I wonder which artists/albums will be this years Christmas music? Last year it was Zero 7, Garden State, and a bunch of chillout albums.

Wired (soon to have a better title as this is so late 90s)

Sia - Breathe me
. Just can't get enough of this. Last song in the six feet under series.
Veronica Mars soundtrack. Lots of great indie bands, old and new. The Dandy Warhols theme song is still addictive in the 2nd season. Tegan and Sara, Mike Doughty, and Spoon are also fav tracks
Metric - Live it out. The new album sounds great
Great Big Sea - back to the roots with the hard and the easy, it has great sea shanties and especially the song about the perils and odours of loving mermaids.
Matisyahu - King without a Crown. Good new funk/reggae.
Nada Surf.
Death Cab for Cutie - Plans. Quite listenable, but not as good as I thought it could be. Soul meets body is really catchy.
BabyShambles. Mellower and way better than I expected given the "buzz" around his probs.

Still going strong
The Bravery - Hasn't been picked up yet by main media. "Honest Mistake" was played during an NFL game last weekend, when the St. Louis corner missed coverage leading to a Seattle TD, very funny.

Franz Ferdinand
- 2nd album is great, especially Fallen and Do You Want To.
Mike Doughty - White Lexus is still listenable.
Beady Belle - Closer.
Antigone Rising - From the ground up.
Nina Simone - Sinnerman. This song still grabs me. The Verve Unmixed 2 disc is just one of the best discs around.
Gorillaz. Still having fun listening to them.
Eliana Cuevos. Great latin singer out of Toronto. We made special trips to Sea Vancouver to see her and were well rewarded.
Bloc Party - Silent Alarm. Catchy with staying power.
Interpol - Antics

Tired
This means that I liked them but now I'm tired of hearing them.
The Killers. Now that mainstream radio has picked them up - I heard "Somebody Told Me" 5 times in 2 days in the bay area - I've gotten quite tired. It was great 4 months ago.
Green Day. Same thing, "Wake me when September ends" was interesting 4 months ago.
Arcade Fire. Looking forward to the new album.
Garden State Soundtrack. If I hear the shins one more time, I'm going to lose it. Thankfully it's dropped off the coffee shop circuit.
Laura Viers

Never made it
Some albums/songs just never do it for me.

Eric Clapton's new album.
My Chemical Romance - the Ghost of You.
