Monday was the night for the Bravery to open the Smashing Pumpkins show. My friend Harm went but I decided not to go. Bravery is my favourite indie rock band but I'm just not a pumpkins fan. I thought the venue would be too crowded, especially compared to when Harm and I saw Bravery at the Commodore a couple years ago.
I found out through facebook that there was a Bravery after gig party so I went to that. I'm not much of a late night guy any more! The band showed up around 12:30 and I'd been ready for sleep since 10:30 :-) It was a really intimate as there weren't many folks there. I'm definitely starting to see a "gap" between myself and the younger crowd now, lots of beautiful 20 somethings there. I let Sam, the lead singer, talk with the two really cute girls. After he came back I said hi but he bolted. So I figured it's 1 am, time to go home..
I walked outside and found Sam at the Bus stop having a smoke break. We chatted for about 15 minutes about various things like NYC vs Vancouver, what it's like opening (sucks because no sound checks), what the new album will be like, and more. He seemed like a really decent guy.
The club had been playing a DVD collection of the Soviet animated propoganda films from the 30s. Another band member came out with the case to show Sam. They were jazzed about it and talked about getting a copy. So I contacted their PR agent for their address and I've sent them the DVD from Amazon. I hope they enjoy it!
