Bordeaux 2005 release at Cambie liquor store

Saturday was the Bordeaux 2005 release in BC, so I went to the BC flagship liquor store on Cambie st.  I knew it was going to be pretty crazy because the Bordeaux 2005 is supposed to be the year of the century.  Robert Parker says it's the best year he's ever tasted.  They were expecting huge crowds at the liquor store.

It was very well organized but EXTREMELY busy.  The store opened at 9:30. The routine was that you got a number, then put in your order for the bottle limited wines, then when it was filled they called your number.  I casually showed up at 11:30 and got one of the last numbers at 293.  All the wines that were at reasonable price/ratings were already sold out.  Every tiller was running full bore with a line-up of at least 20 people, each with shopping carts full of 5 or more cases.  It was really difficult to move around.

With those crazy lineups and a sunny day to spend with kids, I simply bailed on getting any of the wines I'd thought of.  I did go back later in the evening and picked up a few things and there was no line-up.
